The 74 came with a 6V system. It appears your charging system has been modified.

The stock charge coils send AC power to the rectifier via white wire, which then goes to the battery and key switch.

I would start by tracing where the charge coils are tied in to your harness.

I meant that Meter will read an alternating voltage if meter mode is on AC.

No idea what he is doing.
