Perfume on a Pig was created by Schu

Another low dollar refurbishing. Was intended to be a parts bike,  but I couldn't resist. Just waiting for the tires to be delivered.

I like the way the front fender “looks” like it’s flapping in the breeze! I think it wants to be ridden.

All my videos do that with the front fender looking like it’s flopping around, but it is as snug and tight as can be. I assume it has something to do with the video speed and the rate of vibration. Kind of like when wheels rotate backwards on videos. I’m only guessing.

Wow Bill, I'm impressed ! I am currently working on a project like that, a DT3 250. And have since collected 2 more DT 250's, both bascically parts bikes, I have decided to revive the DT2 for obvious reasons. The biggest one is because I can and I had one of these 50 yr's ago, my first yamaha. Will need a few things from the DT3 parts bike but that's how it goes for now. Will see what's left when the DT2 is finished. I do post progress on the FB page when I'm doing a project, fyi. I hope to start the DT2 project in 2024. I've already completed most of the tear down and turned my attention back to the current DT3 project. It will look much like your 175 with the exception of an added light kit and speedo. Sorry to be so long winded but your post gave me a boost of hope and energy for projects well done and fun to ride.

Now that the weather is coming around here in Michigan I have finally had a chance to ride the recently perfumed pig. It ain’t right. It starts fine and idles fine and is rideable until you crack open the throttle at which time it falls flat on its face. However, if I pullout the choke it’ll do a right proper hole shot as expected.

The bike came with a china knock off carb, so I purchased a decent Mikuni from eBay. It has been cleaned. The air screw is at 1.5 turns and the needle is clipped in the middle position. The o-ring is in good shape and assumed to be sealing to the bowl. I question if the carb is correct for this 175B.

The attached link has several photos of the carb and one which shows the only numbers I can find being 443 over 62. The carb is the type with the o-ring that seats into the bowl, and it has the removable jet that unscrews from the bottom of the bowl. The manual doesn’t show that style for the 175, but it does for the 125. It says I should be using a VM24SS/1.

So am I chasing my tail trying to get this carb to work on my 175B?

Edit
I am using a UNI filter, open sock type, and I am running a J-R expansion chamber exhaust with silencer.

Parts list on CMSNL suggests that you have the correct carb.

Did you check the jet sizes and originality (ie are they Mikuni), as well as clean them?

Oh, and that carb is one of the first that used the tiny "non air bleed" pilot jet that is different from the earlier models. I don't think the other type will fit but it might? www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/260-14142-25-00

I would probably go with a 27.5 or even a 30. They seem lean stock and you're running a less restrictive filter.

Air leak could be another possibility as well as retarded timing.

Thanks for the info. I just checked that all jets are clear and clean. Put on a new o-ring. Adjusted the air screw from 1.5 to 1. Set the pin clip at 3rd from the top. But did not check sizes to see if they have been messed with. Will do so shortly.

but here are some videos for audio purposes only. Phone was in my coat pockets for the two test runs, so close you eyes and pretend you are behind the bars! lol

This just shows a cold start. Hasn’t been run in several weeks.

This is sound only, but you will hear it fall flat every time I roll on the throttle. It just bogs out. First 2 or 3 attempts were in first gear, and the last few attempts were in second gear. As soon as I let off the throttle it continues to idle fine.

This is sound only, but I pulled the choke out as I rolled on the throttle. You will hear that it accelerates fine but the engine dies when I let off the throttle.

By the way, Happy Easter!
