Hello everybody! I have a charade.
Yamaha has a lack of information about colors of certain models because of variety of countries and markets they were supplied at seventies.
Yamaha TX500 is an example, there´s no information about early TX500 in Brandy Red, but in several movies and bikes that I know personally show early TX500 (those with the red diamond on the dash with the 80kmh warning) in wine color (72/73 was Brandy Red).
The same occurs with DT125, DT250, DT360 with different colors in Europe, Japan and rest of the world (early 73 Brandy Red or sweet Gold and 74 another stronger Red)
There's DT250A in Geneva Green, Blue or Silver Dust and the great majority in Virginia Gold like mine.
DT360 normally are Geneva Green but in Japan they offer a kind of chocolate color that is not informed in any official color chart.
I think by the colors of the 73/74 color chart, it would be Amber Brown or Cinnamon Brown because it's more brownie than RT-3 Baja Brown wich is too orange and not too chocolate.
Somebody has any clue to this mistery?

The biggest issue is that much of the information commonly available is for the US market models.  Japan often got colors and some changes before the USA did. 

Hopefully someone who has some information on other country DT360 color choices will be able to answer your question about the brown you are looking for.  There is a Japanese DT360 parts list in the Tech Library I think...  I will take a look and see if it mentions paint colors. 

Here is a screenshot of the tank part numbers....  it shows the 1974 DT250 had two colors available in the Japanese list...  Google translate can sort of make out the writing in the far right notes column...  looks like "dust blue" and "geneva green" were the choices on the 250. 

On the 360 tank color, google struggles and comes up with "serge prawn",  "serge brown", or "surge brown".    The 1976 USA XS500 shows it came in a color of "Marge Brown" so my guess is that is the color you might be looking for?

Stripe pattern is different than the US models too.

I have a European parts list for the 1974 'A' models - the DT250A came in Blue Dust (-02) and Virginia Gold (-03), and the DT360A came in Yamaha Black (-07). The figures in brackets are the colour code suffixes as shown in the part numbers.

I have a JDM range brochure for 74 trail models .
It does show the 360 in a darkish brown colour .
Being unable to read Japanese , I can't say what Yamaha named the colour concerned .
Perhaps someone else here may be able to decipher it .
Being fairly useless technologically , I can't load a copy of the brochure here , but if someone wanted a pic , PM me with your email address .

I have a 74 DT360. When I bought it, it was painted "Geneva Green" with a single outline stripe. It otherwise appears identical to the picture from Mark T including silver ears and head light

Yes, I notice that. The most information is related to the USA market, even the DT250/360A international graphics is hard to find. I found one kit in Australia once, but It came to me in bad conditions in Brazil.
I bought a DT100/125A gas tank only to copy the colors and measure of the stripes and Yamaha logo size. A friend of mine did the decal kit but I didn't see yet how it looks.

Great! Thank you very much!  Yes, my version of DT is the japanese version, not the US. Here in Brazil, DT250A came only in Virginia Gold and Blue Dust. We didn't have the DT360A for sale here, Only 6 RT2 were offered in 73 (only silver) for marketing annalisys but they didn't brought more.
