DT250A Tank was created by Dan76

Hi, I've a DT250A 1974 im certain it has the wrong tank fitted. Its not long enough for the front 2 round rubbers to fit in the frame correctly its aroud 35-40mm short.
im right in saying this is wrong ? has anyone got a suitable tank for this bike ?
Thanks !

What colour is your tank? Does it have two screw holes each side for badges? Can you post a photo of it to a third party hosting site, so that we can see it?

Thanks!

Tanks been painted badly blue at some point. it just comes up far to short on the front surely the 2 rubber mounts should fit in the pockets on the frame? As with any other bike

I don't believe Gr8uncleal was trying to challenge you on your claim of fit...  rather he was likely trying to identify what you have as it could be valuable and worth selling or trading for the correct tank.  He's a very helpful person.

A DT250a and DT360a tank should be the same except paint scheme.

It's very likely a tank from 75-76 DT250/DT400 would fit your frame as well.  Hopefully an expert will come along to verify. One thing is that in 1975-76 the tank shape and cap style did change so if you are looking for a "correct" look, you'll have to find a 1974 hinged-cap tank.

(1974 was the first year of a completely new frame... so earlier model 250/360 tanks might fit better than what you have but it won't be a good fit.)

Hi, Sorry didn't mean to come across rude at all sorry if it did. i did try a later 75 tank they are to long. id happily attach pics if i could.
Im sure my tank must be 125 or similar
if a 250a and 360a tank are the same just gives me more chance of finding one. if anyone does have one please let me know. Of course
if it fits better happy to offer current tank to who ever needs it.

I'm kind of surprised the 1975 tank didn't fit since the parts lists seem to show the frame, seat, and rubber rear tank mount are the same from 74-76.

Parts lists are sometimes wrong though.

Have you checked your VIN?  Does it start with 450 prefix?

(Registration and title information is often very wrong...  you need to check the VIN to identify the model year)

You also could have a non-US model which in 1974 may have had a "DT2" prefix VIN.

Photo shows the green tank on my DT360A - note the locking petrol cap. Yours should be the same, but gold.

Side note, if you click on a pic in Imgur, it will open in a new window.  From that window you can click the "BB code" copy button and then paste that into your post and the photo will show up in the post as a photo.
