DT175C piston advise please was created by nutman

Hi All,
I would like to replace an Australian +0.25 piston. The one I got has good compression, but it has a L shaped top ring and a small chip came of the piston top where the ring sits. (sorry can't upload a picture).
Are the yambit pistons good? They have the Australian version. (not sure myself why this is different)
On the picture in the webshop the windows on the skirt look different and the ring pins look like they are more towards the centre.
Please any comments are welcome preferably from members that used the yambits pistons. Thanks.

Yambits usually supply TKR pistons which are of good quality.  I have had them from yambits in the past.
TKR are Japanese piston manufacturer and a OEM supplier to japanese bike manufacturer.
However, I believe genuine Yamaha pistons are often made by ART.

RT or MarkT will be along to comment on the compatability of the 175C asian and UK pistons.

I do know the later model, post early 1980s asian market and UK market are different.  No idea about your model though.

Just tried to submit the ebay link & failed then it took EVERYTHING i wrote prior GRRR. I should know by now, so here's the ebay number. eBay item number:403260583743
66.25 piston kit listed in AU. Looks pretty [but don't they all].

What i originally said [& lost] still stands which was pretty much Wait for MarkT as he's more up on the play than me on things like this.

Son just showed me how to use a thing called 'tinyurl' & it works. Just hit it up there a bit.

Sure that one looks pretty. The problem with eBay is that it's hard to know if something is good or overpriced rubbish.
I would assume that the Yambits people would like to maintain a healthy reputation in the industry and sell a decent product. (hopefully I'm not wrong).
The next question that I have is about the ring gap pins. On most pistons seen online they are positioned a little closer than the original. It looks like they are not going to touch the top, narrow, end of the intake.
At some point the intake port becomes wider but the compression rings don't seem to reach that low.
Did I see that correct?

From what you said earlier, I assumed that your piston was a dykes ring? L shaped?

If so, the piston you will be looking for will usually have cutaway upper ring groove at the crown to accomodate it. Usually, not always.

As this one has.  If so, from what I remember from long ago, TY175 pistons looked exactly like that.

Guessing OP is wanting to go away from the Dykes top ring just reading between the lines.
But anyway--i'm thinking the boost port wouldn't be excessively wide on an older DT175 so i'd think you'd be ok still with any that look close-ish together with the ring pegs.
MarkT will be waiting in the wings to fill in the gaps i hope.

Find an image that ends with jpeg. Copy and paste it.

Add after with no gap.

That tells the site that the link is an image.
