Tony as simple as these bikes are I can’t stand electrical issues 

I'm with you on that Wes!  After thinking it through I'm going to check the connections at the main harness where they tuck in under the tank, seems like the most logical place to start. 

So I got the taillight working, how you ask - I haven't a clue but it's working.  I tried finding the dark green wire in the loom that's tucked under the tank (see picture below), but no luck.  Just for the heck of it I plugged into the right front turn signal in the headlight bucket with it still attached and both work fine.  At this point I don't know what to do!  I also noticed that the speedo light isn't coming on but that's the least of my worries.

 

Good news, I finally figured it out! I had to add a ground wire to it, yes I did try grounding where it bolts onto the bike but didn't do it so I had to run a wire up through it and ground it where the bulb socket screws into the housing. Now everything electrical is working to include spark. I still have a few things to do then I can fire it up for the first time in about a year when I decided to tear it down and bring it back to it's former glory. Thanks for all the help with this...
