1975 DT 125 Battery was created by jeffshaw

Hello,

I bought a little DT125 and it didn't have a battery. Repair manual says it must have a battery to run. The box and even the rubber strap are there. However, when the previous owner removed the battery they must have also removed the cables. I was hoping someone might have a similar 125 and would be willing to take a picture of what the battery cables look like and where they connect. I think one of them connects to a screw on the frame that is also connected to a heavy gage wire going to the starter solenoid. From the diagram, the other cable should go to the voltage regulator and to the main switch with a fuse in there somewhere. I can't see anything like that on the bike. I was expecting to see some dangling cables somewhere that used to connect to the battery but for some reason they were removed. Can anyone help me out on this one?

I have the exact same bike. If someone doesn't already send you a photo by this evening, I will head out to my barn and take a photo.

So I put on my snow boots and headed out to the barn. Not sure this photo will help much, but it shows the negative attached to the frame which I believe was your main question. Can't promise this is how it came from the factory. I needed to go out there and do a head count anyhow......

Thanks for braving the cold! I appreciate the picture that's helpful. I'm still not too sure where everything connects.

If you follow that black wire attached to your frame under the gas tank I think it goes to the starter switch/solenoid. Mine is red and that's where it goes. I was thinking that the negative lead from the battery would connect to that same spot on the frame, but you only have one wire going there, so now I'm confused. Also, I don;'t know where the positive lead goes. I think there is the main lead that goes to the ignition switch, but is it a continuous lead all the way to the front of the bike or is there a connector or post somewhere? Also, there is supposed to be a small line that is fused that I don't know where it connects. Can you see where these go on your bike?

I can dig deeper this weekend if you don't get an answer from others. It's too dang cold to go back out there and take things apart. My garage will be heated up to 60 degrees this weekend, so I can waddle it thru the snow and bring it in the garage.

"I'll try to figure it out before then - thanks!"

So did you figure it out?
I won't be able to dig mine out of the barn until Sunday. We got walloped with our first big snowstorm of the year and I have a lot of snow to clear tomorrow.
Let me know.

DT175DOUG says "my wife thinks me having just two is enough. NOT!"

Getting the third or fourth bike past the wife is always a struggle. But once you get to around 5 or more, they seem to lose track. My wife says I'm running a Yamaha Rescue Shelter, but none of them ever leave the shelter....
