Hello Everyone, i was hoping someone can help me out on a two issues, In the process of dismantling the bike to get ready for powdercoating, i found two areas with broken tabs , i know what one of them is , engine protector on the right side bottom frame tube , i was wondering if someone knows if that tab is the same length as the one opposite to it on the left bottom frame tube i do not have an engine protector yet , there was none when i got the bike i want to weld on a tab and drill the hole in the tab after i get my engine protector i can see the old weld on the frame to give me a location to weld on the new tab.
the other issue is a missing what looks like a post that a bolt and nut attach to , looking at page 188 in the shop manusl it shows a picture of the post and the nut&bolt #'s18 & 19
im hoping someone could give me the dimentions of the post so i can weld on a new one, also what attaches to the post? Any advice is greatly appreciated .

I can’t make out what you are talking about by your pictures, maybe point to the area you are talking about? I have owned a dozen or so DT250’s always the 75-76 model which I imagine the 74 model is probably identical as far as the frame, when you say “post is missing that appears has a bolt and nut broke off” I am thinking of a small post that holds a bolt with a locknut that is used to adjust the height of the rear foot brake pedal, the head of the bolt rests up against the brake pedal itself. I have seen it broke off a couple of bikes and the symptom is the rear brake pedal sits up too high in relation to the foot rest, hope that makes sense. I made one fairly easily from a 5/16” rod copying from another spare bike frame I had and welded it onto the frame drilled and tapped a hole in the post and used a m6 bolt and nut. Then again we might be talking about a completely different part of the frame?

Yes that is the part #18 & 19 goes through, I used 5/16” rod but the actual piece is “D” shaped, the flat part of a “D” shaped rod would make it easier to drill the hole, I drilled and tapped the rod, put the bolt in, the bolt head is what rests up against the brake pedal and adjusts the brake pedal height and the nut locks it in place, with the bolt against the brake pedal you can measure the length the rod needs to be prior to welding it to the frame, I remember it being about 1-1.5” the bolt is also about 1-1.5” long.
