DT 125 a crankcase bolts (US import) was created by Snowman212
Good evening
I am rebuilding a 1974 dt 125a engine and trying to source replacement crankcase bolts with not much luck, I have found some for other models and was wondering if someone could advise whether they are the same or where I might be able to get some from.
The sets I have been looking at are for dt 125e 74-79 and dt 175 74-77
Thanks
John

We have no idea what you're looking at... sounds like non-US models bolt kits? Do you mean side covers or center cases? ("crankcase" means the center cases to me)
One thing you could do is look at Motodad24 or other US ebay listings for your bike... some sellers show the bolt lengths.
If I had to guess, the European DT125E (electric start model) kit would be the most likely to fit. DT175 and DT125F from 74-on is a different engine design.

Morning John.
The parts are likely still available from Yamaha, albeit some with updated part numbers - check out CMSNL or Partzilla for these.
If you check out the front few pages of any original Yamaha parts manual (find these in the Tech Library), there is an explanation on how to "read" a part number and from this you can generally see the original length and diameter of a screw or bolt.
Some folks buy new parts from hardware stores, others stick to original. Most thread pitches used are industry standard, but a handful are fine pitch, so it pays to double check.
What a lot of us didn't realise until much later in life is that screw heads that appear to us as being "Phillips" are, in fact, "JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard)" , and this explains why so many of them have been butchered! You can buy JIS screwdriver kits online.

You would have to pay about $5.00 a screw at Partzilla. Here, at Bolt Depot, zinc plated are about 14 cents. Stainless available too. Their Chrome bolts are very nice.
Metric machine screws, Phillips pan head, Zinc plated steel, 6mm x 1.0mm - Bolt Depot
