DT360A Front Brake Cable Length was created by Top Jimmy

I sourced what I thought was a new front brake cable for my DT360A.  It turns out it is actually for a 1975 DT250.  There was a post about this very topic in 2019. A good read for anyone with a DT360.

yamaha-enduros.com/index.php/forums/74-7...able-fitment-problem

I’ve found a place locally that can make a cable for me.  I was wondering if someone could provide some measurements for me.  Unfortunately, the cable that was on the bike when i bought it was not correct either.  I am looking for

1) the end to end length of the inner cable
2) the end to end length of the outer sheath.

I checked the manual and online and could not find this anywhere.  Hopefully other may find this information useful too.

I didn’t read the earlier post but I get all my oem Yamaha part numbers from the exploded views at Babbitt’s Online. I have used them for years then just go to EBay and type in the part number. Babbitt’s says the 74 DT360 cable is the same part number as the 75 DT250. I didn’t look at the 400 but all three bikes are built on the same platform. Cables to control the different motor functions are different (basically throttle and oil pump). I’ve had great success using the part numbers from the Babbitt’s site. The site also says that cable is 1180mm. Probably end to end. Good luck.

Yeah that’s the problem.  The 75 DT250 cable has an adjuster down at the brake drum and the 74 DT360 does not.  I know others have used the 75 DT250 cable on the DT360 by drilling out the brake plate to allow the adjuster through but I’d rather keep things original.  I think the 75 DT250 cable may be shorter too because it has a different routing.  I have attached some pictures (found online) to show the difference.

Well seems another example of the DT360A being a little “unique “. Thought I was going to help…Making me really not wanting that 360…even though I like the look.

I have an original parts book and the part number that you want is 438-26341-00 and there are a couple on fleabay.

This, and the clutch cable, are unique to the 1974 DT250A and DT360A.

I might be able to answer your actual question and take measurements later on today (breakfast time here in the UK!).

Edit - I see now that I have just repeated what I said in my post on the thread that you posted a link to - apologies for this!

Right then.

Length of outer cover, between outer ends of ferrules, is 1115 mm.

Length of inner cable, between outer ends of nipples, is 1275 mm.

Three photos of mine attached (please excuse the old carpet backdrop!).

Gr8uncleal, thanks for taking time out of your day to take the measurements and report back.  Much appreciated.

I was expecting the DT360A cable to be longer than the DT250B cable based on the difference in how they are routed. Here are the measurements of the DT250B cable I have for comparison.

Outer sheath 1180 mm
Outer sheath with adjuster fitted 1215 mm
Inner cable (end to end) 1334 mm

Cable is routed as follows:-

From lever
Down  through the smallish gap just below the main switch
Pressed into small clip that sits on bottom yoke mounting bolt
Through guide attached to left fork leg
To brake drum/plate

Do you have standard size 'bars fitted?

I’m pretty sure they are the standard bars.  I routed the cable as shown in the manual which is exactly as you described.

I was a bit surprised to learn that the DT250B cable is longer.  I did a bit of mock-up based on the lengths you provided and it looks spot on based on photos of DT360A found online.  So now I just need to get a cable made up.

Thanks again for your help with this.
