1974 DT125 was created by Redman2932

Good day all! I’m new to the DT125 world but not to bikes in general. Rebuilt an ‘83 XS650 a few years back from the ground up. My buddy brought me this bike to get running for him again and previous mechanics have broke one of the cylinder head studs off at the crank case. As they attempted to remove the broken stud they chipped the case. I have heard this could be an easy weld repair that could be done without splitting the case by a good welder. I also have found a 1975 bottom end for a good price and was wondering if there is any reason I couldn’t use that? Any help or suggestions is appreciated. I have attached photos for clarity.

74-75 Dt125s are exactly the same except for fuel cap, graphics, and color. Bottom end is probably the same from 69-76. Swap it out and then fix the offended one! Good luck!

I agree. Some parts were changed over the years but yes, you can swap the 125 engine assemblies (talking US models that only came with 12v electric start) from 69-76.

And yes, 74 and 75 125 electric start engines are likely identical inside and out.

Try the weld repair option if owner wants to keep it numbers matching frame and engine.
