DT360 / DT250, Throttle cable was created by mdscott

Has anybody used this throttle cable on your 74 DT 360 or DT 250, I can’t seem to get the auto lube cable to sync. The throttle turns about 1/8 or more and turns the AutoLube pump pulley quite a bit before the carb slide is lifted. Way too much slack at the handlebar throttle also. I’ve tried adjusting, The adjusters are at its max, and the auto lube cable at the engine is at the minimum. Hope this all makes sense. Maybe photos will help to understand

Problem from what you described has to be the cable between the splitter and the carb.

I have had that problem, I removed the locking nut from the pipe that threads into the case at the pump. Then run the pipe all the way into the case. I may have even run the thread a bit more with a die.
On some stretched brake cables I have cut a split adjuster down an stuck it into the adjuster end . I will post a photo when I get a chance , probably tomorrow

1974 had the standard flat slide cap on the carb. 1975-76 had the tall cap on the carb.

Tall cap carbs need slightly longer inner cables at the carb.

So you could either shorten the inner carb cable or maybe add a sleeve like to the outer carb cable.

The link you posted for HVC Cycle, lists the part number as 437-26311-02 . . . which even though they list it as fitting the 250/360/400, is for a 74 DT100 . . . . NO WONDER the throttle cable doesn't fit right!! :S

While I'm on the subject . . . Be leery of anything advertised as "one size fits all"
The 250 cable is different then the 360 cable, and the 400's cable is yet again different from either one of those. Notice they all have different Yamaha part numbers.

This is (among other things), because they each had a different size carburetor. The larger the carb, the further the slide has to travel to fully open it . . . in other words, the longer the distance that the inner cable has to move or stroke within it's outer cable jacket . The difference's in oil cable length were often compensated for by the use of different diameter pulley's installed on the pumps themselves

Hopes this info helps someone later on.

If it were me, I'd send it back for a full refund. :Coffee

Yes, by all means, if you cannot get it correct, contact them. In my experience Brad Obidowski has always been straight with me. I would expect him to be the same with you or any member here.

That said, I too have had to do similar "adjustments" like removal of the oil cable jam nut, etc.

Please let us know how this works out in the end. I have used HVC a great deal and never gotten something wrong. I hope he will make it right.:Buds

Correct me if I am wrong but I understood the problem the OP is having is the carb side cable is too long? And the carb slide travel is not moving, yet the oil pump is already traveling much ahead of the carb slide?

I think I understand what MarkT is saying is the HVC carb side cable is too long for the short cap carburetor on the 74 DT250-360, therefore the HVC cable is likely based off the more common 75-76 DT250-DT400 as those models used the tall cap on the carburetor?

Enduronut says the cable would be much shorter for the HVC advertised part number which corresponds to a DT100 vs. what I understood as to what the OP feels the cable is too long?

I’m thoroughly confused now, I was considering ordering one of these cables for a 1976 DT250C but I had heard of similar problems as the OP is having, with out ever getting a clear cut answer which bike the HVC cable will fit without modifications.

I have in the last few days put this cable on my Dt 360 and seems to be fine but I have not cranked the bike yet.

In this picture the lock nut is removed from the pipe to get it in-sync with the carb

I didn't have an adjuster the right diameter to fit it in to place , I hope you get the idea

What Mark said about the taller cap makes sense working better with this cable

Thanks all for the input, Rob I will try to do what you suggested.
Cable has been on the bike for quite a while, I was going on a trip I needed a cable quick and I just dealt with it.
Thanks Mark
