How's this running was created by turdferguson

Hey guys, I’m new to the vintage 2-stroke game as you can probably tell by my previous posts!  Anywho, these old bike are absolute raw machines and I’m just not that familiar with how they should sound when running good.  All my other 4-strokes sound like sewing machines while this thing sounds like it’s going to explode!  Bike fires first kick, no choke and rips through all the gears but to me it sounds like bad bearings in there.  Would y’all mind watching the videos and let me know what you think?  Thanks!

Sounds normal to me, these old 2 strokes do make a lot of noise and vibration but I love em anyway!

Not that terrible . . . . Not that great . . . . Not a problem . . . Yet!
I do hear some chattering going on.

It could be mild piston slapping from a slightly worn bore and piston, but the noise sounds very random and more frequent then what I'd expect.

This leads me to believe it could also be a loose clutch basket (rivets)
Lastly, I'd check both rod bearings (aka rod play) as per the service manual, but I rather doubt that senario.

Good Luck if you decide to chase it down . . . or . . .  just go enjoy it as is.

Here's my CT-1. Sound similar, and runs fine. It's actually running better now, because after that first video I adjusted the points, and it idles smoother and runs strong (second video).

If you are used to four strokes, especially water coolled four strokes, an air coolled two stroke will sound horrible at idle.

I nearly had kittens when I first fired mine up and got the the shaking up a few bolts in a coffee can sound.
I have a lot of experience of air coolled two strokes, but nothing within the last 15 years or so, so was not expecting the cacophony I was hearing.

This despite rebore and new piston, new mains and small end, big end checked very carefully for radial play.

Its due to the cooling fins acting like amplifiers, amplifying every mechanical sound in the engine.

Having said that, I am still planning to pull the barrel on mine "just for a quick look" for peace of mind.

I always look at the exhaust tip to see how much smoke is coming out and quite honestly from the angle I was looking — I didn’t see anything.
Like EnduroNut said ; “best of luck.”
