DT175 MX Mudguard Bushes was created by MikeK-uk

Good day all!
This isn’t the most exciting of questions/posts…
My plastic rear mudguard has stress fractures where the rear light bolts up.Looking at the parts list, there should be (and isn’t) a top hat section rubber bush. Is this bush supposed to be inserted through the bottom of the plastic mudguard, with the “brim”of the top hat providing a spacer between the metal mudguard support and the plastic mudguard?
Think that’s how it must work but wanted to check before cracking my new mudguard!
Thank you.

I have to look at one of mine... As I remember it, rubber "top hat bushings" go through both steel inner fender and plastic fender from bottom... bolts insert up from bottom with flat washer OD of the "hat brim". Steel sleeve inside rubber prevents overtightening... nuts on top.

I will try to remember to check tomorrow.

I also believe the inner metal fender is formed to fit tightly to the original plastic outer fender at the taillight mounting points.

Took a peek in the dark...  on the 78-81 model the inner fender is indeed a tight fit to the original plastic fender at the taillight mounting points.

Top hat rubber bushing sit on top of plastic fender and fit into taillight bracket...  steel bushings inside.

I will look again in daylight...  had to look across crowded shed with small flashlight.

Thanks very much! Interesting that plastic sits directly on to the metal mudguard. I have got the collars (not fitted previously) so i guess the absence of them caused the stress fractures rather than absence of a spacer.
Thank you.

Trying to upload my first Imgur pic of underside of original 1979 DT175 rear fender...  then in a couple of hours when it is light outside I will try to get pics of top of fender/taillight.
