The clutch ball goes between the short plunger type rod behind the pressure plate and the longer clutch rod that goes through the axle and into the little spring clutch lever mechanism that also has a steel ball in it. 
The long clutch rod is concave on one end. Does the concave end mate with the ball on the short plunger or the ball in the clutch mechanism?
It’s not really clear in the parts diagrams.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Does the concave look original because I don't think they were like that from new. If it were me I think I'd sit the detent against the small ball in the actuator. It'll be good. Big ball is 5/16--8mm but if you have the original then no worries. Just my opinion.

The big ball measures 8 mm. I’m sure the rod is original.
Probably wouldn’t make a big difference one way or another.
