DT3 Detent plunger was created by Tim Ravic
I've recently got a DT3 imported from USA, which I'm starting to restore. I've stripped the engine and have discovered that the gear selector detent plunger & spring are missing. There is some small scraps of metal in the gearbox but nothing else looks damaged. I'm in the UK & have looked for the parts but they don't seem to be available. Does anyone know if any later/other model parts would work? Thanks

Thanks for that... I've bought them.
Do you know if there is an issue with these breaking?

Not breaking as such, but if there is water ingress on a bike abandoned outside, say, then the spring can rust (it happened on my US import RD350). Saying that, there will be other signs of the water ingress as well.
What is more usual is for owners to mistake the detent holding bolt as the oil sump drain bolt

and the spring and stopper get chucked out with the old oil!

I'm not sure how many of the old posts you've read, Tim, but I would recommend fitting a 6v regulator if you're sticking with original electrics. Post if you need more info.

They are still available from Yamaha - check CMSNL for the up to date part numbers.
If you need them, KDI on this site sell repro cables (amongst other items) and forum moderator/member DEET sells top notch replacement silver/grey wire sleeving.

Just a thought. Did you drain the oil yourself out 'that' bung instead of the middle one, as the missing parts could be in 'your' oil tray. Just saying.
