"would take the air filter out of the air box and go for a ride if there’s no change then your exhaust is probably it"

When mine was bogging with a pod filter on, I removed the pod, went for a ride, and it ran perfectly. That's when I realized that the rubber boot stepped down inside, and was acting like a choke.

If you look in the end & see something like this down in there then that's the spark arrestor.
It could have been removed though but are spot welded in.
Then again the long baffle should go through baffle plates so the fact that the gas has to travel zig zagging through the baffle might negate the need for an arrestor like i found a pic of that someone sometime kindly put on the forum.

Yep i did that too, but i think you'd get more than frowned on in the US & other countries these days if they found out you'd done it, with dry grass & forest fires everywhere. World's in dire straights these days. --So thought i'd better not mention it. Cheers.

I remember reading an article as a kid where they removed the Yamaha exhaust inserts. Noise went way up. Power went down. Two strokes need back pressure to make power... the best racing engines with no mufflers used to have very small output pipes... which is where the nickname "stinger" came from.

A friend had one of the first Honda CR125's "kit bikes" that was bought fully modified from a company like FMF. (Remember those ads in the magazines?). Anyway, it had a down pipe with a tiny stinger and a little tiny add on "muffler". (No muffler was required at local race track... and this was a full on race bike). His Dad cut the stinger off and replaced it with about a 2" tube. Killed the power. I mean opening up the exhaust turned a fire-breathing monster into a mediocre machine.

But we still did remove the Yamaha inserts... sure sounded faster to us.

I had a Hooker chamber on the CT1 I had back in the '70s. I remember riding at Escape Country in Southern California, and just for kicks I took the insert out, and it was loud but it ran like crap. Put it back in, and the power came back.

Main thing is that it's not partially restricted with carbon in the arrestor.

That's a hard part to find, and I think it does affect performance if not in place. Hopefully one of the members here with many bikes and parts laying around has one they can offer you.

Yay we have a winner--you fixed it. Gotta keep those exhausts clear. Good man.
