Had a pretty bad exhaust leak, so I ordered new gaskets. They came in today, and it was a real simple task to pull the exhaust flange. The string gasket was completely gone, and there wasn’t a gasket between the flange and the engine. Started her up and that’s one more problem to scratch off the list.

The bad news is that while I had the flange off I took a picture so I could see inside better. The piston and ring are really scored. I guess that’s my issue with the smoking.

So, since I am going to have to pull the cylinder off to send to a machine shop, what other things should I be looking at doing?

It's not a four stroke.  Rings don't have much to do with burning oil.
