2nd bike done, 2 more to go!

This little 69 AT1 came out nice. This was not a restored bike so i thought it would be much easier then the RT1 or the CT1 coming up later. However i had to actually put more time and money into this little bike then the RT1. Surprise to me for sure.

Again i went completely thru the bike. replaced many items, of coarse rebuilt the oil pump, carburetor and original fuel petcock. Always do. Still has original top end and its in great condition. Bike still wearing its original Yokohama tires, original pearl white paint, original tank badges, original frame paint, original seat among other things. Starts and runs great. everything works on the bike. Nice that it has working turn signals and heavy duty buddy pegs. Just have a few small things to do once the weather warms up again. We are back into a cold spell here in Michigan. May post a video later.

Now onto the 68 DT250 next. This bike should be much better then the other 3 for sure!

Added video of 69 AT1. Final run & check video.

In my garage so the mic on phone camera makes everything louder then they are. Bike sounds loud in the garage for a little 125. Has a good crackle to it.

3rd bike done, 1 more to go!

Of coarse this bike is the reason i had to buy all 4 of these bikes. You don't get very many chances to buy or own a original low mileage 1968 DT250 in this condition. Never seen one this original or this clean. Been sitting in the guys house for 30 plus years. maybe even 40 according to him. Doesn't really matter how long because it's been well preserved and taken care off. Never seen anything like it.

I was hoping this bike didn't need a lot of work like the other bikes and it didn't disappoint. This bike is like new. Only things that i can see that has ever been changed on it are the speedo rubber cushion ring, kick lever rubber and tail light rubber grommets.

items that i did to the bike in the last few weeks: Cleaned carburetor, flushed oil tank & oil pump, installed new battery, rebuilt fuel petcock, remove cylinder, inspected top end, cleaned excessive oil out of crankcase, Set timing while head was off, cleaned points, inspected inside of gas tank, it was spotless. Changed engine oil, tighten all nuts & bolts on bike, adjusted chain, Fixed a minor dent & repainted header pipe only to 1st weld. Rest of exhaust is original paint.

Parts i replaced, Carburetor bowl gasket, setter O-ring, petcock seals, petcock screw washer gaskets, engine oil, injector oil. cylinder base gasket. that's it.

Will upload a running video soon.

Now onto the last bike and the one that's going to need the most work, at least i think it will?  the 1969 CT175.

On to the last bike, the 69 CT175. Unfortunately the last one is the pickle of the bunch. I had this feeling after kicking it over when i got the bikes home. Little did i know it would be this much of a mess. After all, the seller did tell me he hasn't started it in years but it has a new top end and should run. Really?
I guess installing new rings on a completely worn out piston and bore is considered a "new top end" Lol!

After removing the top end and seeing right away its going to Bill Bune enterprises to get bored out i gave it a few kicks and there it was. rough loud bearing noises. So it's time once again to split the cases and rebuild the complete engine.

Been years since i completely rebuilt a 175. I think the last engine i did a complete rebuild was the 68 DT250 i restored in 2022. Never hurts to get some more practice.

The good and the bad.

The good is the crank and rod assembly. tight like new and no noises and smooth lower end bearing. upper pin and bearing like new. 2nd thing is the complete gear set and shift drum and related parts. All look real good. No wear. Engine cases are nice and clean and no damage.

The bad is just about everything else. Complete worn out top end, clutch basket back side has gouges in it, kick gear & idler gear all messed up. All 4 main transmission bearing bad. Clutch plates old and brittle, springs worn out. All seals bad. Was able to find all new NOS or great used parts for the bad parts. Of coarse all new bearings, seals, gaskets and clutch parts.

Well the good thing is the engine in this bike will be like new. Should run great. Of coarse i will be going thru the carburetor and rebuild the oil pump and anything else needed. I already did fix and reconnect all the wiring on the bike. I did check it for spark before taking it apart and it did have spark.

Also I located the correct original rear shocks, front fender and handlebars. It had a very nice front fender on it but it was a AT2 125 fender set up. Sold it on Facebook. Has original tires on it and there starting to get cracks so most likely will be changing them out too.

With main crank bearings that rusty, I'd be rebuilding the crankshaft.

Rod bearing might feel smooth now but all it takes is a tiny bit of corrosion on the pin, the bearing surface of the rod, or one of the needle rollers (any of which is impossible to see without pressing the crank apart) for the rod bearing to fail in a couple hundred miles.  Been there, done that.
