12v Step-up Transformer was created by Pete-RT1

Thought this recent addition to my CT1-B might be useful for anyone wanting a 12v outlet on a 6v bike.
Last year Agop and I did a four day trip on the bikes and charging my phone was a bit of a pain and my portable powerbank ran out sooner than I hoped.
As a result I've just added a 6v to 12v step-up transformer which enabled me to add a USB charging port.
The step-up transformer is only outputting to the USB port, none of the other systems on the bike are affected.
As the CT1-B doesn't have indicators, I used the brown common wire behind the horn.
Both items were from Amazon and were less than £20 total.
Have only done a short test so far and all is working fine,  will give it a run tomorrow to make sure there are no problems.

That is super cool - I wonder how many people back in the 60's dreamed of this - please keep us posted about use as I may well be going the very same route, thumbs up !

We had one in our 1966 VW Beetle (6v) to run an AM/FM radio/8 track tape player which only came in 12v...  my Dad installed the radio and the step-up voltage converter sometime around 1970 if I remember correctly.

I'm trying to sort out the lights/indicators on my CT2. Typical 6 volt issues. Can this transformer run

the lights and horn?

I've considered running a 12v battery , totally independent to run the lights/horn. Just keeping it

charged on a maintainer. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Can't really answer your question, just wondering why you need to replace the existing 6v set-up, is some of it missing or not working?
As MarkT pointed out in another 12v thread, "Corrosion in the connections and switches and sometimes corrosion inside the harness wires can really cut down on the power that gets to the bulbs."
I have a CT3 with the same system running all stock bulbs and it works fine.
Good luck with it.

The indicators are the main issue. They just light up very dimly and don't flash. I've been going back

through the forums and reading about this issue. There is a lot of good information. I've gone

through all grounds, connectors, bulbs etc. I guess the AT3 I owned previously spoiled me. Of

course it had 12v electrics which were trouble free. I may go for a Vape 12v kit as this is a nice bike.

Thanks and I hope your transformer addition works out.

dj my CT1-C indicators were not great so I swapped the bulbs for LEDs.
If doing so, you need to replace the original flasher unit for an electronic unit and do a small mod to the wiring, but probably less than £25 all in.
I kept the original flasher unit in situ and just hid the replacement under the tank out of sight.
There's a link to it in this current thread which might be of interest to you.
