Just a bump for Joe's thread, as I'd quite like to fit a sealed (non gel) battery to my CT1.
Here in the UK, some places will neither fill with, nor sell to you, the acid with which the non sealed batteries should originally be filled with.

Here's the one I have on both of my CT1s, it's been absolutely fine so far.

Yes an alarm battery by the looks of that. Good idea Pete . I mixed my own acid electrolyte . I think the ratio is 30 to 1 but i could be wrong there. It's a while ago and hydrochloric goes under other brand names . I bought the acid from a place i use in Blackpool .

I found this thread as the 3 year old Yuasa battery in my CT-1 is failing. I ordered a battery similar to the one linked above, and it's arriving today. Made pigtails for it, but just wanted to confirm it's compatible with my old 1971 stock charging system? It has the original rectifier, but I added a regulator.

Be careful in insulating the positive terminal as it might hit the seat pan.
There is a "WL" version that has leads coming out of the side at the top but harder to find. (UB645WL)
They will work, I had one last for years and years. And others fail on the first ride. With a regulator at least headlight should be safe if it fails.

Here is a link with pic of the "WL" version. www.walmart.com/ip/Battery/100273058
P.S. Not sure if this seller actually sells the "WL" version or if they have the wrong pic. Pretty good deal for a 4 pack, WL version is usually closer to $20 than $10.

Thank you for the reply Mark. Yes I am going to insulate the top terminals from the seat pan. I did consider that. I actually use a piece of cut-off inner tube as a strap to hold it into the box, and I think that might even cover them, but if not I'll add some to the seat pan. Or make a flap that goes over the battery. I'm glad I found this thread, I almost bought another flooded battery.

That Walmart battery looks like a better option, but it's a lot more expensive. Seems to have basically the same specs though. I'll see how this one works out.
Oh, I just noticed that $44 was a pack of four. That's actually a great deal, if you can buy one.
