Kickstarter assembly was created by DaveM

Kickstarter shaft broke so am replacing it. I thought I documented the disassembly process but apparently didn’t get things right. Is there a specific orientation for the clip to be installed? If someone has good documentation (better than a Clymers), send me a link.

Import it to youtube and repost maybe. I've done that a few times and works well.

Factory service manuals are in Tech Library here.  And you haven't included what year and model bike you have or what the issue is so it's hard to help.

Assuming it's a Yamaha, one common issue is the friction clip with the "tab" gets tweaked and doesn't have enough friction in the groove.  Without the friction, the gear won't try to engage.  New clips are available from Yamaha.
