Then I found these, vintage GT Hawkins before they sold to Japan's ABC mart, insanely comfortable, you guys are fortunate to have heritage brands like Redwing that didn't fail to adapt and fold to the competition. So glad I got these in my size. I also have a pair of high Fox's with all the plastic stripped off held together by shoelaces and straps and they are just amazing for blasting! Hawkins had a beautiful red brick factory in Northampton, not making shoes there anymore, but hey their boots are still going strong ! Oh and those "hard toes" are about as hard as a six year old with an ice cream on a hot day, lol

FINALLY !
I have the carbs dialed in about 98.2 percent now! The fuel screw is set out about 10/12 of a full turn and probably what did it is the secondary carb return point can be slightly adjusted by a tiny screw and lock nut. I set that to almost minimum and the mid range improved so much and smoother all round
Actually with the 250cc bikes there really isnt much mystery to carb set up as the control distance is set by a weird piece that looks a bit like a tuning fork, you can close this up by winding in the idle but you then would have a crazy high idle, you can then adjust the secondary carb stop, plus the pull on pull off throttle control
So happy the weather has cooled and I feel so much more confident taking this trail beast out

meanwhile the local dirt bike shop guy wiped out and broke his collar bone and tibia so whatch out for those hidden divets on the trails !
