Hello dglenn, a bit on exhaust coming out of the exhaust port where the pipe fits in will not hurt the bikes performance but it can make a little mess on the pipe. What I have done to seal the exhaust there is it to make a string of high temperature silicone the diameter where the pipe fits in and using a very small screwdriver I insert it into the space where the pipe fits in, one wrap around only. Hope this makes since.
