Oxalic acid (wood bleach) works wonders on rusted chrome with no scrubbing.

I put a new on of those on mine. you just get a longer one and have them cut it down. I can get more info if yo need it.

Thanks for that! I found this in my shed. I thought it was 420 I was disappointed I didn’t have a chain but looks like I do!

With the steering head, you might be ok with just a clean up, new grease and maybe new bearings (very cheap from cycle shops - don't pay Yamaha prices!). Have a good look at the races before buying replacements, as they might be ok.

I was thinking of sticking taper roller kit in there just to try it haha but I am on a tight budget.
I think I’ve found a tail light and side cover which are the who main missing pieces I need. Everything else is really just cosmetic.

Well some excellent news.
Found a few parts about halfway to the other end of the country!
The main difficult to find parts are now sorted.
Only a few oddballs left like a chain guard and choke lever. I have basically everything else now that will be required for roadworthy!
Luckily the side cover knob is available from Yamaha still!
Last item is the seat. I can’t afford an oem one right now so will probably roll with the eBay one. Eventually I want to repaint it and have it as close to original looking as possible but to have it roadworthy from where it was is enough of a victory for now.

I haven’t seen, on this thread, that you have replaced brake shoes. That is important. They can come apart and lock up the wheel. Very nice work. I’m following.

I had a look at them they’re well bonded to the castings.
I have never replaced them or even heard of that issue before
They are asbestos. But so are all my motorcycle brake shoes.
