Hi, I have recently acquired a 1972 DT250 as a winter project bike, frame, tank and wheels in pretty good condition but engine needs a complete overhaul and missing a fair few key parts such as speedo, rev counter, batter box, ignition, light controls and a general lack of electrical goods but hopeful I can source suitable replacements - looking forwards to seeing some of the other bikes on here, thanks in advance

The model you've got is likely a DT2, but check the VIN table in the Tech Library (see top toolbar) for confirmation. VIN and engine number should be the same.

The CMSNL site is good for buying parts, showing which parts were shared with other models and some photos for reference. Don't take a sellers word for what a part is or fits, do your own photo research first! Post questions here if unsure.

If not already done, replace front and rear brake shoes - Yamaha still supply these, and CMSNL probably has the current part numbers.

If you think that you might have to go overseas for some parts, try and do block orders, so that you keep (extremely excessive!) US postage costs to a minimum.

KDI make decent repro parts.
