Hey Everyone,
My name is Owen, I am 22 y/o pipeline welder from Southern California. Ive been visiting the page since I got my first enduro (76' DT175) 7 years ago, and today I decided to make my first post.
I have had 5 70's era bikes now: 76 Dt175, Honda XL250 and 350, currently a 72 Kawasaki F7 , and (my favorite) a 72 Yamaha RT2.
I first developed the eye for enduros at 15, when I found a the Dt175 for $400 on craigslist. I was given a hard NO when I asked my parents for permission. So, being the stubborn kid is was (and still am) I ditched school, hired a friend with a pickup, and drove the 2 hours down to Long Beach CA to pick up my new bike.
This is where the passion started.
Due to the nature of my work, I have spent nearly all of the last 5 years living on the road. My enduros have traveled with me through every corner of the country and they've provided me with memories and adventures that I will not soon forget.
At the beginning of this year, I had to return home to begin a new treatment for an illness I live with. The treatment is everyday, so naturally I haven't been able to work. With all of my free time, I decided to buy my 2 latest bikes - 72 Kawi F7 and RT2. The RT2 i bought running (barely) and have completely overhauled it. It runs like a dream and I have 1000 miles on it since the rebuild. And the F7 I am currently in the process of rebuilding.
That's about the gist of my introduction, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing info. Im still pretty green with the bikes but Im excited to learn from you all.
Thanks - Owen

Glad you decided to finally post after 7 years! I had an F7 when I was a teenager. (I’m now 66) My Kawasaki F7 was faster in top end speed than my buddy who had a Yamaha CT2. But his was more fun for trail riding. It’s great to see someone of your age with an interest in vintage motorcycles.

Cool Story that brought back some memories from about 50 years ago when I was about 13 I found a 1975 Yamaha DT400 in the local paper, my older brother and I only had one working bicycle between us so we took turns one running and one riding the bicycle for about 15 miles to a part of our city that neither of us had been to and knew it was a part of town you really didn’t want to be in. I bought the motorcycle for $350.00 and I really couldn’t even ride it as I was not tall enough, as my big brother said I’ll meet you at home and took off on my newly purchased bike leaving me to pedal the bicycle 15-20 miles home as I got lost several times and had to back track, but I was happy as I had my first bike that I bought with my paper route money.
I also like Schu’s comment on the young crowd getting into these old bikes, I have been trying to get the grandkids interested and they are more interested in that Nintendo crap and have their faces glued to their tablets, I do have one granddaughter Interested in mini bikes and motorcycles but she wants a little electric mini bike, I guess at least that’s a start :(
