 from near Salisbury, UK.

If your bike is a 1975 model, then I would imagine that it is a DT175B.

I would expect the parts you need would be available from CMSNL or ebay. Genuine Yamaha parts are best. However, if you go for reproduction ignition parts, make sure you buy something like Daiichi, not modern reproduction parts.

When I was working with Edgar at Powerdynamo (now VAPE) on the 125/175 ignition kits about 10 years ago, he informed me that customers in Germany had 175's reportedly in the 1974-1975 model year range with a "CT1" prefix on the VIN.  The suffixes on the VIN's were well outside the USA VIN charts...  CT1-3XXXXX.

My notes say the Yamaha model code was "458" and that they had the clutch lever on top of the engine with a 120mm stator diameter...  in other words, the engine was the newer 175 design the USA got in 1974.  So Gr8uncleal is likely correct that your model is most similar to the US DT175b.

(USA CT1 VIN was last used in 1973 and all were the first generation 175 engine with clutch actuator in the side cover and a 130mm stator...  First version of 175 also had a much lower rear lower engine mount compared to the 1974 redesign.)

Following on from Mark's comment re VINs, and purely as an observation, Euro model VINs for the 1974 DT250A and DT360A started DT2 and RT2 respectively. They might also have had an asterisk either side of the VIN.

If your VIN really does start CT1, Martin, I wonder if it was a bike brought over by a US serviceman and was registered in Germany in 1975?

Photos would be great, but you need to upload them via a third party host, such as Imgur.

Good point...  you never know where the bike may have come from.

That said, 1975 German market 175 definitely had a "CT1" VIN prefix.  Unfortunately, the pictures Edgar sent me 10 years ago have somehow been corrupted on my old computer.

A US import would match the US VIN charts and have the "69-73" characteristics I mentioned earlier.

A German market 1975 model would have the US 74-76 characteristics.  One reportedly confirmed German market bike had a VIN of CT1-3XXXXX. It had the characteristics of the US 1974-75 model DT175.  A reportedly confirmed German market 1976 175 had a "1G1" prefix and seemed to be most similar to the USA 1976 DT175 from what I could tell in the pictures.

Hey,

thanx for all that information. My model has indeed the "CT1" prefix in the VIN and the engine housing is similar to the later US Model. At the outside of the cylinder the number 44300 can be found. First registration was in early 1975.
