San Diego checking in was created by RestoDan
I’m Dan and I like old motorcycles.
My recent purchase is this fantastic 1978 DT175 (1,500 miles). It’s a one kick wonder at the moment but I’m not confident the autolube is working properly so it’s parked until I can learn about that system and verify it’s operation.
My restoration experience is mostly with a few Honda mini trail 70’s that Ive done so I’m excited to branch out into the yamaha enduro scene. My plans for this bike is to keep it stock and return it to being a reliable rider.

Sir,
My name is Mark Hamersly, LONG time member here. I have an RT-3 that's been a daily rider for me--two or three times a week from Santee to the Border where I was an Officer. I've taken to California Dreamin' five or six times to dats. I have had a recent knee replacement, and won't risk it kick starting it. It was supposed to go to MarkT of this website, but he's had physical problems, so it needs a home--no hurry, but it needs to go to someone who will ride it. It had all the mods--a permanent clutch actuator mod that will never break, a 12V headlight with regulator (haven't burned out a bulb since 2013. Red Wing hammerhead shocks, Dave Meis "Sleeper Pipe #43 (IIRC), chain tensioner, S&W fork springs, and .005" milled of the head. It's street legal (barely) and licensed continuously . It's on a first over piston right now, with about 1000 miles on it. I have the next over Wiseco piston and rings, and enough spares to keep iot running for at least 15 years. If interested, I will let it go very reasonably. It hasn't been ridden in a couple of years, but the float bowl is dry. I did pull the plug cap off the coil wire, and cut 1/4" off and reinstalled it, but haven't tried to start it. I DO have spare coils, etc. as well. As well, I have an assortment of Mikuni jets for it; it's jetted perfectly as it sits for the San Diego area with a 280 Main. Up at Hungry Valley/Gormon I drop it to 270, and for Johnson Valley, depending on the weather, I will either leave the 280 in there if it's hot, or go to the 270 if it's cooler. Let me know if you are interested. God Bless, and good riding!

Oh man I would jump all over that if I had more garage space. My last acquisition just filled my garage to capacity. Sounds like one hell of an enduro with that list of specs!

I'd hate to teach granny how to suck eggs, but would fitting an aftermarket decompression valve in the spare spark plug hole alleviate your concerns?

Uncle,
I already HAVE a second compression release...I have seen these break ankles, and it's kicked me fairly good, when I wasn't paying attention. But at 71 years of age, being a retired military aviator and a retired Federal Officer, I have, shall we say, issues? With my body. I don't want to risk it now, since for the first time in a while, everything's working as it should. I raced my last race in 2014, on a restored for the race 1973 Yamaha 250MX, that's now in a private collection here in San Diego. I had to grow up, sadly. But the other things-I've been shot, had two strikes and four heart attacks, a double by-[pass and died for four minutes, plus predicted in 1978, I have kidney issues that are, for now, static at 55% function (the 'medical facility' the put me in there in Laos, was a 6 man tent and one guy had Hep A, and three others of us caught it-the VA predicted that kidney and liver problems were on the menu if I lived long enough--and I'm there!. So, I want it to go to someone HERE, one of US, so that it get ridden as it should. It's basically an RT-3 with all the things I would have done to it, if I could have afforded it in 1973. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully someone will take it off my hands that will appreciate it.
