Hi all- been riding/racing for almost 60 years. Many of these years have had Yamaha enduros,mx, yz's (currently have a couple mx250, mx360, a RT-1/2 and DT-1/2.
I'm looking for compatibility between DT/RT and MX250 and MX360. Do cylinders interchange? Any clutch/gear interchange?

More info on the MX models is necessary.  Yamaha had an engine "redesign" of the Enduro 250 (DT250) and 360 (DT360) in 1974 that was based on the new architecture of the 1973 MX250 and MX360. 

I'm not sure much from a 1973-on MX250 or MX360 engine would be usable on a 1973 or earlier Enduro 250 (DT1/2/3) or 360 (RT1/2/3) respectively.

As I said, I've had these bikes , but never tried swapping parts till recent times. Getting harder finding parts (especially "high-wear" pistons/rings/cylinders).

I am working through a few things.  I do not have a single bike from 1972 which I consider to be the missing link on Enduro's/MXs.  I have lots of 1971 and prior CTs, DTs and RTs.  I have a 73 ATMX and two 73 MX360s and a 73 RT3.  There are no engine parts that I can see that will translate between the RT3 and the MX360s.  I will assume the same is true for the DT3/MX250s.  I can pretty much guarantee that there will not be much of anything on the 73 YZs that can be used on the 73 forward Enduros. 

I have lots of 73 and prior rear suspension parts, if you are restoring that is one thing, for anything other than casual riding, in my opinion, they are not very good.

There are lots of fork parts that interchange from 68 through 73; Enduros and MXs.  The wheels also have a lot of interchangibility.  I have measured that 73 MX360 wheels and forks will fit on my 71 through 73 enduros.  The only difference I can see is that the 73 MX360 inner fork tubes are a little longer. The 73 wheels are obviously the Akrondt style raised rims, but they will definitely work on, at least my 71 enduros and MXs.  I have not tried anything from 71 forward on my pre-71 DTs.

I am shadetree mechanic at best, I am happy to answer any questions based on my direct experience, but there are a lot of others here smarted than me.  I completely agree with Mark's comments on the pre-73 stuff.

Welcome from NZ. The MX250 & 360 were a new design & nothing useful will interchange with the early motors by memory. Piston kit will but that's about all. Good way to check is eyeball the base gaskets on both.
