76 DT400 leans over too far on kickstand was created by AirborneSilva

Just read the threat about missing side stand for the guys 360 and it reminded me that mine leans over too far and was wondering what the fix is. I've tightened the bolt as much as I feel comfortable with but was wondering if bending the tab it's connected to is the fix... Suggestions?

If the kick stand doesn't look bent that may be the only way to cure the problem. My mount is also bent and the kick stand foot no longer sits flat but sort of up on it's toe. Low tires will do it also. Some heat may help with bending it. It is mild steel so no chance of wrecking the temper. Good luck!

Fairly common problem... that's why you see the template for a new bracket!

The consensus is that the habit of leaning the bike on the kickstand while standing on the left peg with the left foot and kick starting the bike with the right foot over-stresses the bracket causing it to bend and/or break.

Thanks guys, I'm guilty of standing on the left foot peg while kick starting it but then I weigh less than 160 so I don't know how much damage I can do, it was like this when I got it a few months ago. Thanks again, I'll see if I can bend the tab a bit and also check to see if the stand itself isn't bent...

I was able to bend the tab pretty easily by just standing the bike up and with my foot I pushed down and in on the bottom of the stand, it looks like it should now. Thanks again!

Apologies for bringing back an old post, but would the kickstands you mentioned work on a 1969 dt1b as well or are there any modern plug and play options out there?
