Evidently there are more than 1 speed and sport. So after calling the one in California I was told that the 1 I wanted was in Pennsylvania. I ordered a new needle jet and needle.

I got the new needle jet and needle in and installed. It does run better but still has what I am going to say a miss when I am at a constant rpm usually under 5000. I don't believe that it is lean as i do not here any pinging, just like it stumbles which to me I think it is rich. All items and settings are in stock position. Now when it is set up like oem when I open the throttle in any gear wide open it will pull good and sounds normal until I get to about 6000 or 7000 rpm and it really starts to cut out, if I let off the throttle just a little the noise goes away and it starts pulling and if i open the throttle slowly it will not make the noise and go to red line no problem.
I tried raising the needle clip from 3 to 2 and it seemed to get worse, every aspect except Idle.
I then tried lowering the needle clip to the fourth position and it acted more like it did when in the 3rd position except when the throttle was opened all the way say starting at 3000 it went to above 7000 before it started cutting out.
and when I moved the clip down to the 5th position it sounded like it did when in position 3 but much worse except for wot and again it sounded good up to above 7000.
So I am going to put the clip in the fourth position and go from there.
Does any of this make sense to you guys?

evidently I am just venting now as Wednesday i replaced the bowl (and changed out the float needle and seat and adjusted the float height to 21mm) on my existing carburetor that does not require an oring on the needle jet so here is how I had it set up
MJ 160
PJ 25
air screw 2 turns out
slide 2.5 originally it was a 2
clip in the 3rd spot
and the bike idled great and ran good but was rich at WOT so I put a 150mj in and rode 30 miles Thursday finding it to idle great, and ran good but was still rich at WOT. This morning I put in a 140mj and it would idle great and ran rich from 3500rpm up and couldn't get it above 35mph this all happened with in 1 mile of riding it and also now it will not idle well. It will run very good when I turn the gas off and the carb starts to gets empty which tells me that it is rich with the gas on.
what in the world am I doing wrong?

4 pages of posts so I've forgotten how it started but if it won't rev out with standard sized main jet I always think exhaust first. I'll read back on my desktop later so ignore me if I'm off the planet again.

your not off planet it seems that things are happening that shouldn't be. the exhaust was cleaned (by campfire method) last summer or the one before and I have put over 300 miles on it in the last 2 months with it not able to handle wot all at once but it will if you do it gradually, until today and now it is rich from about 1/4 throttle on up.
Up until today it had been a little blubbery while maintaining a constant speed which was about 1/8 to 1/4 throttle.
