How to remove the passenger footpegs 1975 400?? was created by TennesseeVol51

Both passenger footpegs on my dt400 are loose and flop all around and spinning all way around.

I do not like buddy pegs anyway is there any thing I’m missing, the only way I can see to remove them is to cut them off??

the tab on the swingarm is permanently riveted to the peg I’ve never seen this before.

why would Yamaha design the pegs not to be removed serviced or replaced?

here is a picture

I have a feeling you're looking at someone's modification?

I certainly haven't seen everything and I don't remember everything I have seen.  I can say I don't remember ever seeing a Yamaha of this era with rear pegs that didn't attach to a threaded bung in the swingarm.  And I've owned and worked on a lot of them.

looks like you could tack weld that bolt frame to the peg frame to give you leverage and maybe it will unwind off the swingarm.

Yes, and more pictures would help determine if this is some sort of "hack" or something simple like someone threaded them in without the jam nuts.

Agreed that it's threaded in without the jam nut and the threads are stripped, or the bolt is spinning in the bracket. Is the bolt head turning when you twist it?

I was removing the swingarm anyway.. everything on the swingarm came apart so easy.
You can believe me or not but the swingarm bolt just pulled out easy as can be.
And the inner bushing pushed out with my index finger.

then I put the swingarm in the vice and started trying to remove the pegs I tried the left side, mind you now the bolt on the backside of the swingarm that holds the chain guard came off like brand new.

But the buddy peg was not gonna budge with multiple tries with propane torch and Kroil. So I put the cutting wheel on my die grinder and cut the rivets off the backside flush and did no damage to the frame I filed it off smooth and it’s perfectly flush so I will dab some paint and no one will know any difference.

If I ever need the threaded holes I can drill the bolts out and clean the threads..

I’ve got a lot of cleaning to do more to come later and I know many more questions, thanks for everyone’s help
