1974 AG175 part manual? was created by Ronza72

Hello,

Thanks for letting me join. My stepson recently took delivery of a AG175 and has asked for my help. It doesn't run and it's going to need so parts and some work me thinks. Would anyone one know of a parts manual I could download? Any help is greatly appreciated..

On another note, has anyone removed the magneto? This one is jammed on tight. No spark so its going to need a rewind I reckon..

Cheers,

Ron

Hi & welcome. I guess you're either in Oz or Nz [im in NZ].
Agy's arrived probably about "73 'i think' for the 175, & maybe "72 for the Ag100.
Then in about 1979 or "80 they updated it big time with a similar [near same] motor but an updated cylinder & head--plus i guess lots more too,
So firstly lets have a year & if possible a photo too.
In the mean time i'll go looking online for manuals for the two variations of model.
Cheers from further downunder if you're in Oz.

I don't think this link will be much use but your stepson might be able to filter through stuff & find the right year or model--early or late model. I ended up scrolling through pages but not getting very far.

Page in the square scrolls using mouse scroll separate from the scroll bar of the overall page on the right.
He's no doubt clever enough [being young] to go to the top of the page & work through to find the exact model.

I'm useless at finding vin numbers online to pin down the exact year. But looks to be an early number with all those zeros--someone?. So chances are it's points ignition. AG's went CDI on 175 late in "70's maybe '79 just before the model changed. Think AG100s stayed point until the model did change.
Best ask if you need to know what ya can't find online. I worked in the local shop back then & had one the same myself [just a rough old trade-in--of which we had heaps].
The motor is pretty much a Yamy CT3 with restricted porting [performance] & a typical farm ratio gearbox with an annoying step from 3rd to 4th but was necessary to get a good road speed.
Being too smart for my own good i fitted CT3 gear internals to mine which then was way under geared for road work & the dished sprockets left me with limited options. So swapped it for my old BSA 350 i'd sold to the same farmer years before.
BSA was horrible [not as i remembered it lol] so sold that & it's been downhill since then & here we are [not sure where that is anymore].
Scroll the first lin to go down to your model. The first bit relates to the changed model.
Nothing very helpful but worth a look.

I can see with that flywheel it's not going to be easy to clean the points or even scratch them as no real slots, just holes.
I did see a parts manual on Ebay but $50 so--!!
www.yamahapartsonline.com.au/parts/
The parts link above you need to go along the top & AG175 don't show until "75 i think.
Then the last drop down to pick an assembly. Bit of a pain & not the best to work through.

Very little info on the AG models... we never got them in the US. "482" shows up in the Yamaha model code list (available in Tech Library) as a 1974 AG175 for the Oceania market... and with the low serial number after that it seems fairly certain it's a 1974 model.

Have you tried the Yamaha Australia website for a parts list? I used to have a VPN service that allowed me to select an Australian IP address and then if I cleared my cache and held my tongue just right I could connect to the Yamaha Australia website from the US. And also some Yamaha dealer websites... there was one parts supplier that had quite a few parts lists and sold parts online. I was able to find at least one AG175 parts lists as I was interested in them... a random selection of free owner's manuals were also available from Yamaha... that was several years ago though... and I vaguely remember the list being from a later model with CDI.
