Testing CT2 source coil was created by robbnc

I have no spark, new plug, new ignition coil, everything has a good ground. My source coil measures 2.8 ohms with points open. I can't seem to find the normal range for that reading listed anywhere, not even the manual.
Any ideas?

What is the reading with the points closed?

I'll look up the reading later in my yamaha literature  but sounds a bit high. Then again if your reading it off the black while still in with the plug coil primary then maybe explains it. OK nearest I can find is AT3F which is probably the same mag , says 2.1 ohms so close. Plug coil primary says 1.7. As I think MarkT asked does it show zero with points closed. I still use an old fashioned anologue meter which tells lies but I know where zero is by touching the leads together so start from there. OK sounds stupid‐-but.

I didn't check with points closed, I'll go do that.

I was checking the black wire with the points plate out of the bike. I'm going to get a points closed measurement.

I'd better let Mark reply to that as I guess it should read zero as everything is earthed out when closed in my books. Sounds like ya using a digital meter but I dare say zero is zero. If you touch your leads together does it show zero.

Yes it's digital and it does zero out with leads touched.

I'm outa here for the day but makes me think the points aren't making good contact. But just thinking. Points on probably 2 of my bikes dt1 at1 magneto are crusty at a quick glance * not been touched for about 30 maybe 40 years but never faulter or miss a beat. So I dunno anymore haha.
