Head light/Tail Light trouble shooting

Head light/Tail Light trouble shooting was created by RT3Sam
So I want to get my lights working on my RT3 but I don't know where to start. Here's what I do know:
- I have a good light. It works directly off the battery.
- I have a good tail light. Brand new system from Preston Petty (Came on Fender Kit)
- My ignition switch switch seems to work fine.
- My handle bar switch is brand new and works fine. I even checked it using resistance.
- My turnsignals and brake light work great.
All this stuff works, but I don't have a head light and tail light while running. I know it seperate from the battery system. Do I have a bad lighting coil and how would I check that?

Have you turned the ignition key into the second click round?

If a US model, the RT3 taillight runs off the battery by law. Only headlight and gage illumination lights run off the engine. So yes, make sure key is turned to "lights on" position.

Find a yellow from the mag & see if it has AC voltage. Not only yellow but there probably three different colors coming off the lighting charging coils with different voltages when running. Maybe hook up a 12 volt car high wattage bulb if you have an old one under the bench-- to avoid blowing your good 6 volter while playing around testing. Not sure what voltage you'd expect with a rev out of the yellow but maybe 15 free volts with no bulbs.

Yes, have run the bike with the ignition switch in the 2nd or lights on position. still no head or tail light..

Sure, when I get back to the garage. It was a cheap china knock off I purchased on e-bay for $13 and free shipping. Main difference was it has a ground wire instead of grounding to the handle bars. Had no directions, so we had to take the time to meter the wires to figure out what switch operated what function.
