Transmission Oil Level? was created by RT3Sam

So my transmission case states 1000cc Oil at the oil fill cap. But my dipstick shows the transmission case is way overfilled when I put 1000cc of oil in there. I put 500cc of oil in the case and the dipstick shows its at the correct level.

My question is how much oil are you guys putting in your transmission?

Check it right after you run it. My DT400 with 1000cc in it read overful after the bike sat. Reads correct if I check it after I run it.

Whats the book call for? I have an actual 1973 Yamaha service manual and it doesn't have oil capacity in it.

RT3 owner's manual (copy in the Tech Library) shows 1000cc or 1 US quart (quart is actually 946cc)

I see its already been answered a couple of times here but I've found the same thing until you run it, shut it off, let sit a little bit and check it. I even bought an NOS dipstick for my RT3 just to make sure I had the correct one...and I did. Make sure all the old oil is out (move the bike a little side to side at the end) and put in 1 quart. Done.

Owner's manual for your RT3 can be found in the Tech Library... links to library at top of most pages.
