I just bought a RT1-B with almost no wiring harness. I've located a RT2 complete harness. Is the RT2 harness (mostly) compatible with RT1? I do intend to use as street legal so will use as least a head, brake & tail lights.

Largely the same but on a RT2 the ignition switch is located between the speedo and revcounter .
I'm pretty sure RT1 switch is under the fuel tank .

CMSNL shows that the RT1B (1971) used the same clock mounted switch as the later RT2 etc.

My two Rt1’s, switch ( 1 mod plug and 4 pigtails), mounted under the tank.  

just finishing up two new harnesses for these 2 im restoring… 

a labor of love, trying to emulate the original connections, measure, strip, tin, crimp, solder, crimp and cover.  

most of these harnesses get the job done i assume but be advised, they generally are just the main trunk… magneto, horn / light , tail light pigtails do not come with them so your using your old leads.. 

time vs cost of the purchase for a 1st time builder..  well .. im in the red time wise vs a KDI aftermarket for 199.. up to 250.. from others. 

good luck.. test all your connections on the old stuff.  

fyi, harness with key mod plug below tank, to a center mount key switch , between gauges would be a pretty easy pigtail to build, along with the associated loose connections, 2 male two female should that scenario ever present itself.

On another note, can someone tell me what material ( clear connection cover on female 4mm plugs) Yamaha used to allow a heated fusion behind the connection without burning (cutting through) .  

1971 RT-1B ignition switch is betweem the tach/speedo as was the1972 RT-2.

Thanks every one. AI + the parts manual shows the same count of external wires exiting the harness,so I ordered a RT2 on eBay.
Based on another suggestion, I found & sells new RT1B harness for $88 + shipping of 35 Euro up to $400 purchase. Many other RT1 items in stock that I could not find in US which could justify shipping, or so I told myself.
