Probably can, but best to check where the ring peg [ring end gap] is for the lower ring at bdc. viewing in the inlet port.
Worst case is you'll just have to run the top ring only. My guess is it'll be ok but only one way to be sure.
Also the piston shirt on the inlet side will be slightly longer on the two ring piston, but won't hurt to shorten it to match unless there's strengthening bits inside the skirt at the bottom that will be removed.
