1970 AT1B Points won't open! was created by Jimrazz

Hi-
I'm new to the forum. Got a nice little 125 here. Someone removed the original points and never put any in there. I bought points on ebay that look fine, (132-81221-10). The points are old school replacements, original box marked "Union PS-94". Again, they look good and they fit ok, (meaning the holes line up and everything), but, no matter how I adjust, the shaft lobe on the engine side won't make contact with the resin actuator of the points. I'm thinking either the points are not correct or the cam lobe is somehow worn. I doubt it's worn out though because this bike only has about 2500 miles total. The grease wick is still there, and if I mount the points absurdly close to the cam using just one screw then the lobe will open the points. I'll get some pics to post. Just trying to see if theres any known issues with Union PS-94 replacement points.
Thanks!

Welcome! from the UK.

I've never heard of those points, so can't help I'm afraid. However, someone will be along soon who can. Yes, photos would be very helpful.

Welcome. 132 looks right looking at this link but looks like the base point is adjustable on its own. If you've been there & backed that off then i'm no help just yet--& i'm guessing you've tried that. I'd expect them to be very close to right for gap straight out of the box in an ideal situation. Sorry i'll read ya story closer later as getting interrupted hear at the mo. Just one thought but only in relation to timing although first they must touch the cam of course---but the advance needs to be held open to set the timing at 1.8mm--72thou, or close to it, & on retard it must be close to tdc.
Just another random thought--my AT1B or whatever it is 1970 has flywheel magneto ignition but i'm assuming yours is electric start, hence the 132 points. Sorry for the mostly unhelpful essay & goodluck from NZ down under.

Someone else recently had this same issue with those points. Story and solution can be found here:

this is where I get my part numbers from, the search to buy if they don't have them. looks like they list a different part number 207-81321-90-00 . i'm no expert, just giving an option. different if yours is electric start, then you have the right part number.

do you have a AT1B or AT1MB?

Be careful on the "Union PS-94" points. There have been threads here about them. Here's one.

I have points and maybe some brushes too. I'll look later. Most buy the brushes from Thailand or Malaysia or somewhere like that... there are threads on it if you search...
