Webco Head Wanted was created by MACE6772
Looking to buy a Webco cylinder head to fit my 1975 MX 400. Yes I know there is 1 on Fleabay. Yes I know it's $ 500.00. I was hoping to catch a break from a forum member. Buy the way, in 1975, they retailed for $ 49.95.

$49.95 in 1975 is equivalent to $285.65 today.... and the 1975 $50 price was when they were in production and presumably could be easily obtained by anyone that wanted one.
$500 today was only $87.44 in 1975.... and today those Webco heads seem to be about as rare as hen's teeth...
So knowing those facts, if you have to spend the money to get what you want maybe $500 in today's dollars doesn't sound quite so bad?
(Some ebay sellers are responsive to accepting lower reasonable amounts if you contact them... even if they don't have a "make offer" button.)

Thanks for the math Mark. Going to have to liquidate some other "stuff" to buy it. I am having my right arm and my 1st born son appraised as we speak. I did send them a reasonable offer. Waiting to hear back.

Buying a $50 cylinder head back in 1975 must have felt about the same... a basic job paid only about $80 a week before taxes.
Food prices are even worse than Yamaha parts. You could get a Big Mac, fries, and a drink at McDonald's for just about $1 back then. Costs about ten times that now depending on where you live. Inflation sucks.
Fingers crossed that you get a Webco at a good price that you can afford!

I was making $10 a week working at my dad’s Shell gas station in the early 70’s, granted I was under 10 years old and did not really do any work, but I did pump gas and check air pressure in tires,
(no self service in those days) also do you know how many 15¢ cent sodas and candy I was able to purchase out of the Coca-Cola & Tom’s candy machine, I was in heaven. Back to the point the heads are very rare, just purchased my 4th 1975 MX400 for $350.00 and it had a Webco head on it, although the shipping to me was $500.00

Mark did the same math for me on a brand new, never used, period correct Bassani expansion chamber that was listed at $499 on eBay. Inflation and rarity play a huge factor in it. I bought the pipe with no regrets. I wouldn’t think about it for too long.

They accepted my slightly lower offer and I jumped on it. No looking back now. My right arm has been properly packaged and is on the way to it's new home. Boy, what you gotta give these days..... See you on the starting line!

Keep us posted on the performance differences after you get it installed, I’m curious as to what the benefits of the Webco vs. stock head are, looking at pictures of the combustion area of both heads it looks like the Webco head may have a slightly higher compression ratio. I’m curious if anybody also has specifications as to the exact differences between the Webco vs. stock.

I think it was JayB that had a bunch of info on the Webco heads... you might try sending a PM.
