Okay i have 2 bikes i was planning on titling through the virgina( maybe vermont cant remember ) way but to my knowledge that loophole has been closed. Both bikes ( piles of random parts really) were Found in the "town" (population 81) dump after my next door neighbor's sister threw all of his stuff out when he died and his house burnt down. Rest of the stuff got buried. Is there any way to title these bikes or should i just really not care. Im in the 2nd worst place possible for titles i think (nevada) for ohv and the dmv. any advice would be appreciated. both the ts185 parts and the now running dt1 are 1971s.

Here in NM you can get what’s called a bonded title, it’s not cheap, I think around $300 and can take 3 years to get a clear title

I have titled (I think) 7 motorcycles in my life, six in California and 1 here in Arizona. I know nothing about NV but research the rules OR find a business that does it for you (may not be cheap).
I was told California was difficult too but I got good at it. I think my process which I documented is still here on the website somewhere. I do know the last bike I titled in CA I was told on the way in that I would not walk out with a title...HAHA, I knew their process better than they did and I literally waived my completed paperwork at the guy that told me I would not complete the process on the way in and said "all done." More polite than the one finger salute I wanted to waive.
I am sure with patience it can be done.

California is easy-peasy and cheap compared to Nevada.
Here they used to completely stonewall you without a title. Now (since around 2018) at least there is a "bonded title" process but it might be expensive for the bond and also the title might not be good outside of Nevada. dmv.nv.gov/regbonded.htm
One guy I know got lucky on a bike found under the porch at a cabin he bought... had Nevada plates from 1977. They still had a record of the Nevada title at the DMV and the previous owner of the cabin (and the bike) agreed to sign DMV forms for a lost title and transfer.

Here in Michigan i have to print off a form from the SOS for a cop to fill out. Cop comes out and inspects the bike, run the vin and fill out the form if everything checks out. Then i have to get a surety bond which costs me $100 and then i can finally bring everything to the SOS where they run the vin and if it isnt reported stolen i get the title.

I think bottom line, go into the place with some vin numbers and talk with the agent, they will tell you what more to do… we can all type til our fingers fall off, “how we did it”… here-say just isn’t gonna work.

The problem with that at least in most of my experiences is that it seems most of the employees at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) don’t seem to know their own rules and procedures especially on older motorcycles, it also seems to depend on the mood of the particular person on a particular day. They are usually poorly trained and have attitudes as if they are having a competition on which employee can reject the most customers. My local DMV has numerous large posters on the walls stating that “verbal or physical abuse of employees will not be tolerated” to me that means if that many customers are speaking or acting out from bad service and that if you have so many customers speaking and or acting out abusively that there is something wrong with the way you are doing things and not serving the public properly

Here in Michigan i just print out a TR-205 owners certification form, fill it out and take it down to the secretary of state and they hand me a title. As long as the bike is over 10 years old and value is under $2500.00 and not in the data base. I get a title every time.

I agree that the problem is sometimes the DMV employees don't have a clue. I found this to be especially true in California where some DMV offices/employees wouldn't help me at all and others made it very easy.
It does pay to do your research yourself. For example back when Nevada didn't have any options, I was given a bike from a friend that had lost the title and his state had purged the records because it was so old. He even had the original bill of sale from when he bought it.
The Nevada DMV employee tried to send me away because I didn't have a title. I spoke to the manager who got out a huge book and confirmed that Nevada would convert my Vermont "registration only" of an old bike into Nevada title and registration. Had I not known the rules myself, it would have never happened.
