Hi guys, I did a thing yesterday (couldn't help myself), I bought a 72 JT2 and an 80 GT80.  They both have great spark but I'm guessing the carbs probably could use a rebuild so I'm on the hunt for parts (preferably a rebuild kit), the JT2 carb is a Teikei Y16P and the GT80 carb is a Teikei Y16P-3, any and all help is greatly appreciated - as always! 

All I can say, Tony, is well done   on the purchases, but good luck finding new, original TK parts! 

Thanks Alan, the  price was right so I just couldn't help myself.  Yeah I fear you're probably right on finding parts or even good used TK carbs, so now I'm wondering if there's a good substitute replacement carb for both... 

Check with Treatland.  They have a lot of parts for little engines.  Sign up with them and they email you sale codes several times a year

Mikuni VM18 or one of the Bing or DellOrto clamp-on carbs will probably fit?  You might need to measure your carbs and give them a call.

Thanks again Mark, I'll have a look at the VM18. I haven't tried to take a look at the carbs on these bikes yet, my worry is even if they're not in bad shape the gaskets have got to be pretty bad at this point and will just leak.

Maybe not. I try to reuse the original Mikuni gaskets if I can. They are way better than most new ones. If not torn, they swell up and seal again 99% of the time.

If you have the carbs they might be ok and you can always make gaskets.

Look out for TY80 and PW80 carbs also.  Think they are the same.  Also seem to very faintly recall that dellorto carbs off euro built honda Melody mopeds were pretty much the same size clamp on type if you get stuck.

Thanks guys, I did get off my butt and pull the carb of the GT80, took it apart and to my surprise it really isn't all that bad inside but I do have it soaking and will let it soak over night. I did manage to get the gasket off without it breaking and was wondering if I let it soak in some lightweight oil if that might help it to soften up a bit.

Also, found the shim on this carb has a pretty good size chunk of it missing...
