Early Synthetic 2-Stroke Oil was created by CT-1C Rider

I can't pull this from my memory. Help please. Early 70's we used what we believed to be the first synthetic 2-Stroke pre-mix oil. It was pink in color. Sold in a 16 oz. semi-opaque plastic bottle. Double the cost of petroleum based oils. Can't remember the Brand/Manufacturer name.

About 1974 I was using an oil called Fox. Went in my WSK… it was the only oil that the bike would run and not foul a plug…

I (almost) know which injector oil you are referring to, but cannot recall the name. It was a "pink grapefruit" color and came in a clear, tall plastic bottle. Thought the name began with a "C". Internet searches are fruitless. Probably the only way to track this one down is to look at the popular cycle magazines c.a. 1970-74, as they typically had extensive advertisements in the back for all kinds of "cottage industry" products for motorcyclists. Even so, I am confident you will recognize the pictured can, which was perhaps the best of those available at the time... a fine vintage to be sure!

I believe you have the closest recall of this elusive oil. I believe your on with "begins with the letter 'C'. "

The first widely available fully synthetic 2T oil was probably Amsoil in the early 70s, closely followed by Belray?

Castrol A747 introduced in 1974 in response to the needs of 2T race engines, is a castor/synthetic blend, and is still in production today.

Was it Optimol?

Amsoil (spelled Amzoil at the time) claimed to make the first 2T oil capable of 100:1 mix ratios but apparently not the first synthetic. It's on their website in the history section.

Optimol was made in Germany, wasn't it?  It was promoted big in the 1980's and early 90's...  they would pass out samples that came in "otter pop" type plastic pouches to all the racers at the track and offered sponsorship if you ran their decals.  It was a dark color if I remember right.  Maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Many "full synthetic" 2T oils on the market are nothing of the sort.

If they have any sort of JASO, ISO, or API rating, they are not full synthetic, and should not be run at the type of mix ratios that will work fine, if you have a genuine full synthetic race oil.

There is a good deal of confusion over this, and the easy way to tell if you have a full synthetic, is that it will not be rated, and will be marked race use, pre-mix only.

No real need for full synthetics on DT Yams, as these oils do tend to clog up exhausts, as they dont burn as readily as road bike oils, so should be avoided unless you have a very heavily modified bike.

Yam-Fan, do you have any facts to back up your opinions you just posted that said "If they have any sort of JASO, ISO, or API rating, they are not full synthetic" and "the easy way to tell if you have a full synthetic, is that it will not be rated, and will be marked race use, pre-mix only"?

All the big oil companies that sell fully synthetic two stroke oil with ratings and suitable for injection systems are lying?
