Hello, I have a pretty odd case. I replaced the points and condenser on my bike which wasn't sparking when i got it, and it started to spark good, I rode it up untill the wire bracket on the condenser i bought broke, and I put a new condenser in. I wired everything good and there are no cuts in the wires and yet for some reason whenever I tighten down the flywheel there is no spark but when I let it sit loose and it rattles around it gives off a big blueish/purple spark. I'm pretty stumped so any help would be appreciated.

I don't suppose that there is a slight nick in the covering of one of the wires, so it only shorts out once the flywheel is tightened?

Maybe the points are adjusted so that they neither open all the way or close all the way when the flywheel is properly secured?

When the flywheel is wobbling around it could be accentuating the lift of the points cam.

Is that the flywheel with the fangled advance retard cam. spring & arm. Maybe gone by "76. Not that--that's got much to do with no spark. Big blue spark might be too big & blue & condenser not--umm--condensing.

its got that advance on it. I might try buying the proper timing tools and just checking if that points thing SNGLSMKR was talking about is right. Also I shut all the lights off in my garage and I saw no sparking in the flywheel area

ok, I set the points at 0.015 with that timing mark thats on the coils. I also greased the timing advance and its moving well. I had another parts bike that had a flywheel with thicker magnets but the timing advance is rusted stuck. still nothing with that one either. Im so confused that im just contemplating putting a few washers on the crank and hoping for the best.

Personally I would remove the whole lot again and refit it, it sounds like you may be trapping or misaligning something as you are tightening the flywheel.

Points should be set at zero at the timing marks with it held on advance. In other words JUST breaking apart at that point. Maybe were talking at cross purposes & you don't quite mean how you describe it but anyway--If for instance if you set the points at 15 at the mark with the arm advanced [or not advanced] they'll only get wider & probably aren't closing fully. If i'm misunderstanding then sorry, just ignore me. So--points 'just' cracking free at the marks while held on advance!!.

a long day of fiddling with the bike and still nothing. One thing to note is that turning the kill switch off and on rapidly while spinning the motor over with a drill makes it spark. I'm still confused and have no awnsers to this thing
