'72 at2, should I? was created by darinm

Listed as '71 125cc Enduro. Sure looks like a '72 AT2 to me. Seller said it runs but not well. Lights work. They didn't know it had electric start. No title. $400. Talk me out of it :)

This would further your set of 1972 models, my good man. Baby brother to your CT-2. Tins look good. Instruments, switch, seat and rack, again good. Front fender looks like the earlier model. And a blue plate. They are not willing to get the title? Offer them $100 more if they get the duplicate title.

You're not helping :) saw the tins were good too. Is the electric start limited by the battery or starter motor when you convert them to 175cc?

My opinion on the starter as a 175? No, it works just fine. If for some reason it doesn't, kicking a 175 is easy, as you well know. But I have a 71 AT-1C that has a 175 jug on it, and it's no problem for the starter to crank it. If it's tuned right and runs well and has good gas, it fires immediately; it's not like it has to crank like your old Dodge Dart on a 15-below morning in January...
I'm still not helping, right?

The front fender and gauges are worth the price of admission alone. If you don't get it I will!

Sent you an email with the link. If the drive is too far for you I'll end up getting it :)

Went to "take a look at it" today. 30 miles away so not too far, I was hoping someone would purchase it before I had an opportunity to...but it was a bad listing (didn't say the model and incorrect year). Very rough, yet quite complete. Dent free front fender was the selling point for me. Not sure why the 1972 bikes have sought me out, as I was born in the 80s :) This makes me wish I'd kept all the '72 Yamaha Enduros that have passed through my hands in the last four years; LT2 100, CT2 175, DT2 250 and an RT2 360. Now the AT2. Don't think my better half would like that many in the garage though!

I also wonder what's the most miles anyone has put on an early twin shock Yamaha enduro? 23k is very impressive for a 125cc bike in my opinion.

I'll either start working on it in 2021 or if someone here is looking for a project, it's a great place to start as it has no rust to speak of.

darinm,
If you lost a socket; appears may be one on handlebar bolt.
Thanks

I often wondered on the highest seen mileage thing as well; the most mileage I have seen on a “none of mine” early 2 stroke was 37K miles, it was on a 1975 Kawasaki H1 (2) stroke triple, and on a Yamaha 1976 DT250 was 13K miles, maybe this should be a new thread question?

I have a 1981 DT175 with almost 22,835 miles on it... got it from the original owners (brothers).

Brother I spoke to said engine was never touched... it just got hard to start and they parked it in the garage many years ago.

I pulled the head and it's still on standard bore. Compression is low so I'm sure it needs a rebuild.
