Good evening all, well here in the uk anyway…

it’s been a little while but I have at last made a start on fitting some correct/period parts on my bike.  My specific question is regarding the air cleaner box and connecting hose to the carb.

all parts like this for this bike have to come from the states pretty much for us here, we may get lucky elsewhere.  The cost of postage on eBay is horrendous so I can’t afford to make a mistake.

I have  been offered a deal on a cleaner and hose but it is for the RT1MX. I looked on CSMNL and the part numbers are different but the air box on the photos appear to be the same?

RT1 MX air box part number 285-1441100 fits the RT1M 1970 and the RT1MX and DT1 MX from 1971
RT1 MX hose is part number 284-1445300 fitting RT1 M 1970 and RT1MX 1971

the RT1 air box part is 275-1441100 fitting the RT1 1970 and RT1B and DT1E from’71
the RT1 hose is part number 275-1445300 fitting RT1 and RT1B

my question at long last is do they interchange in real life or is there a difference that photos are not showing me or I am missing?

sorry for all the numbers but any help is really welcome.

cheers, ian.

I am a certified idiot. I see the air box for the MX does not have the vents in. So an easier question is would it still be ok for the RT? Or will it mess with the carb settings?

So sorry.

I can't help you much except to say that airbox was sold by Yamaha as part of the "conversion" parts to make your RT1 into an RT1M.  So it should bolt on just fine.

Full list of conversion parts can be found in the Tech library here.

I'm pretty sure the "MX" airbox is extremely rare and probably valuable to a collector.

I found a picture of one on ebay.   I don't think it will work unless you remove the battery?  Looks like it flows more air and takes up more space than a standard air box.

Mark is right about the larger airbox on the MX taking away the battery . The rubber joints are different part numbers ,
as the MX uses a larger carb than the enduro , so are sized differently at the carb junction .

Thanks very much gents

That is a shame as I was offered a great deal compared to other standard boxes. Now I know why!

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks again, ian

I can’t see your photos as I am guessing they are on Imgur which uk can’t get. But I followed your link and that box isn’t what I was offered as a DT1MX.

I don’t seem to be able to add a link but this is the eBay item number. Totally different so maybe listed incorrectly? Interested to hear what you think.. thanks again

Thanks al. You need to show me how to do that. By the way what photo provider do you use now Imgur has gone for us here in the uk? Thanks
