Thanks for letting me in! I'm a 53 year old former MX / Enduro guy, been into the Dual Sport thing a couple of years. Still hit the MX Track and single track stuff every now and then. I currently have: '94 CR 250, '21 CRF 300, '21 150 XCW, '22 CT 125. I've torn apart many 2 stroke motors.
For some reason I find myself wanting and old 2 stroke "Enduro". I've always been a Honda Guy, never even owned a Yamaha, (Several Kawis and Suzukis). My research indicates that the early '70s Yammys were the best, (reed valves), and there seems to be more used ones for sale.
There are 2 for sale semi locally that I like: '72 DT 250 restored by a reputable shop, missing lights/ blinkers - $3,000 ask. '74 RT 360 newer engine rebuild, brakes, cables, etc., a little rusty, but looks good. - $2,400 ask.
I'm kind of leaning towards the '72, (I'm a '72 model). Thinking of offering $2,500. Advice?

You can't post links until you get at least a dozen posts and to post pics right now you need to use a third party like Imgur or Google Photos and link them here.

If it is a genuine 1974 360, then it will be a DT360A. These had cdi which were known to fail, and so some were converted to points using, I think, parts from the 1974 to 1976 DT250 models.
If you can find out the VIN, then you can check the exact model using the VIN tables in the Tech Library - see top toolbar.
I won't insult you by telling you to check the consumables, particularly the brake shoes, but you might not know that Yamaha advised retro fitment of a 6v regulator. Again, see Service Bulletins in the Tech Library for the relevant document. Alternatively, some folks convert to 12v.

Hi HMA - Welcome to the group! I'm also new here; a '72 vintage and just acquired a 1972 CT2 175
Quite a number of years ago I had a DT1 bike with an RT3 360 engine in it. The 360 is quite an engine! I sold that bike, but happy to have another vintage enduro bike. I'm also dirt bike guy, but no MX for me! How do you like the 150 XCW?? I've had a couple 200's over the years and was thinking about a 150 a while ago.
I'm finding this forum extremely helpful and welcoming! I'm sure you will find the same.
Take care and best of luck with your acquisition!
