I have only ever levered them out with a screwdriver at a severe angle, but i do dodgy things mostly so don't follow me, although practice makes perfect.
Might be room to get something L shaped flat steel & get the short bend over the crank & in behind on the "right side seal".
Then pull the L over flat so short end is up behind most of the seal but not right up full height to how it fits in the case. Then vice grips & pull, or lever against something onto the grips.
Or maybe not!!.

Dodgy things are my forte too. 
I drilled a 2mm hole then inserted a screw a couple of turns. Then levered them out with a claw hammer. Worked a treat.

I've used the drill a small hole and insert a drywall screw approach before. I always worry about damaging the bearing accidentally.

I used self-tapping screws, but I think drilling would be easier.
My forearm got a workout screwing those in.
The metal in those seals is no joke.

Blimey Cranky--are you pushing the screws through without a small hole.
Remind me not to pick an arm wrestle with you.
