New cylinder head gasket needed? was created by jmagda

I am replacing my DT3's points (a no-spark issue in another post on here) and it looks like I will have to reset/check TDC again. Will I have to replace the cylinder head gasket, which is brand new and has never experienced this engine having been run with it? The manual says every time you take off the cylinder head to replace the gasket.

Try it and see.

If it seals, then good. If it blows, then replace it.

Shouldn't apply to your nearly new one, but some folks anneal and re-use their old ones.

I agree with AL I would reuse it if you have some copper coat spray some on your gasket

If it's copper, generally can be reused.  Annealing also generally wouldn't hurt if copper.

Don't know about that. It was from Yambits, GSK163, kind of a puffy copper gasket.

Ok, so its this one. I wouldn't anneal it as will just be thin copper over asbestos. Maybe not asbestos in the modern age but something sandwiched in between.
I just grease them & refit them.
I do anneal solid copper though. That's my thought anyway.
